My Learning Copyright Notice Students and Staff

Students

All content provided to students by the University and it’s staff, is done so under University held licences, owners permissions and/or statutory exceptions contained in UK Copyright Law (CDPA 1988 as amended). Therefore, copying and sharing this content with others outside the University platforms/network e.g. on social media or via other means, without specific permission or licence from the copyright owner, would constitute copyright infringement and is strictly prohibited under the Computer Use Policy in the University Regulations.

Students may upload content onto University platforms such as MyLearning, to share with Middlesex University staff and students for course/study purposes. Copyright protected content should not be shared publicly, on social media or with any external persons unless a general statutory exception applies e.g, fair dealing for criticism, review or quotation, or the copyright owners permission has been obtained.

Staff

It is important to ensure copyright compliance before adding course materials to module and programme spaces in My Learning.

Middlesex University holds licences which permit most instances of digital copying and distribution for educational purposes. However, licences and legal exceptions are subject to limits, exclusions and specific administrative requirements which must be adhered to.

Distributing copies of copyright material in electronic format, including uploading it to My Learning, infringes the rights of the copyright owner unless licensed, a legal exception has be applied or you have documented permission from the copyright owner/s.

  • using third party copyright content in slides and lecture notes
  • providing digital copies of course reading material
