This module aims to create health care
practitioners who are able to work
sensitively with clients and are able to
understand the issues and management of
sexually transmitted infections.
Completion of this module will give nurses
a strong foundation of clinical and
theoretical skills in sexual health. It will
enable health care practitioners to
contribute more effectively to the provision
of sexual health care.
Students will study the following subjects:
• Anatomy and physiology of male and
female reproductive system
• Testing, diagnosis, treatment and
management of sexually transmitted
infections
• Sexual health policies
• Psychosocial perspectives
• Adolescents and sexual identity
• Reproductive sexual health issues
• Female genital mutilation
• Current and developing trends in the
provision of sexual health care and
services
On completion of the module you will be
able to:
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the
management of clients with sexually
transmitted infections
• Reflect on the needs of diverse client
groups (eg. sex workers and young
people)
• Critically analyse the role of agencies that
influence the provision of sexual health
services
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of
reproductive anatomy and physiology
and the pathology of sexually transmitted
Infections
• Demonstrate clinical competence in
assessing clients for sexual health
